The literal translation of GRAUTAG RECORDS is «Grey day records». In german language, «Grautag» could also be a day of the week, as «Sonntag» (Sunday) or «Montag» (Monday). grautag records is a music collection for depressed weeks. A kind of black and white psychedelia produced by that everyday sense of emptiness that can overcome you, for example, when you miss your train and you’re waiting on the platform for the next one. When incapable of doing anything else, you just sit and watch TV news in loop on a junk channel...The grey day music of this collection is simply the music of its time. A mixture of different styles, of multiple, chaotic and temporally disparate influences, from electro to post Krautrock and other things as yet unknown... Here, the drunken headiness of better days collapsed in the gutter, like those computers workstations and cathode screens abandoned on the sidewalk, waiting for the crusher: no one really believes the stickers on it that say «in working order». Sounds that are dream-like but under no illusions, Techno music is dead, and punk’s «no future» has become a tired «no present»: a state which looks, paradoxically, like it’s going to last.
